~ #61 ~ Worry
Quotations on Kindle
It's a family curse. I come from a long-line of worriers. Fretting, after all, starves off disaster. Doesn't it? I worry more than I should, about things I have no control over. Do you? WORRY IS A WORD... Elected to two presidential terms, Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) established NASA, sponsored the Highway Act of 1956 to create the interstate highway system, and most importantly, fought hard for peace. And we haven't even addressed his military career... The popular Republican wouldn't allow himself to worry because he had no time to worry. CURE FOR WORRYING... And exercise is better than Valium...
Not only does a recent study suggest worriers have a higher risk of heart disease, worrying is such a waste of time! Worry drains energy, reduces confidence, and heightens fears.
If something is bothering you, settle down, breathe in some fresh air, and share your concerns with a friend. DON'T WORRY... Worry diminishes the spirit and makes problems seem larger than they really are. Give your mind and body a rest. Relax. Focus on what you DO have control over. Prayer works. And have faith that with time, what you are worrying about will work itself out.
"Don't worry about being worried. You're heading out on an adventure and you can always change your mind along the way and try something else." ~ Tracy Kidder
The word "worry" comes from an old Anglo-Saxon verb "wyrgan" meaning to choke or strangle. Worry is a weed that can spread and strangle the heart.
