#3 ~ Be a Mentor
Mentor's Guide: Facilitating Effective Learning Relationships
When I think about my important teachers, I realize that they brought out the best in me. Do you have what it takes to be a mentor, coach, and teacher? Of course you do! Mentors inspire and guide others to achieve their goals. Imagine helping someone do something they would not attempt to do without your guidance. DO SOMETHING!... Thomas J. Watson knew his workers were the key to his success. He built IBM into the world's largest manufacturer of electric typewriters and data-processing equipment. Under Watson's guidance, IBM became a symbol of the age of information. BE A RESOURCE... As a coach, you must be willing to... GET WHAT YOU GIVE... Be a mentor. Watch what wonderful things come back to you. "What you will do matters. All you need is to do it.” ~ Judy Grahn
"I’ve never been afraid to ask questions. I’ve gone out and found mentors, and listen to them…My success is due to my being a good student."~ Pamela Bundy

"When in doubt . . . do something." ~ Harry Chapin
Singer/Songwriter Harry Chapin coached celebrities, politicians, and fans to DO SOMETHING about world hunger. Harry was a celebration of humanity and lived to make a difference. "I'd rather make a mistake than do nothing," he once said.

DYNAMOS OF ENERGY...
"Within us all there are wells of thoughts and dynamos of energy which are not suspected until emergencies arise. Then, oftentimes we find that it is comparatively simple to double or treble our former capacities and to amaze ourselves by the results achieved. Quotas, when set up for us by others, are challenges, which goad us on to surpass ourselves. The outstanding leaders of every age are those who set their own quotas and constantly achieve." ~ Thomas J. Watson, Sr.

"The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been." ~ Henry Kissinger
