#37: Buddha
Buddha's Little Instruction Book
A man of wisdom, a gentle spirit who taught love, Siddhartha Gautama (563-483 B.C.) was a Hindu prince who rejected his wealth and searched for years until he found enlightenment through meditation. He came to be known as The Buddha, "one who is awake." EACH MORNING... "The heart is like a garden. It can grow compassion or fear, resentment or love. What seeds will you plant there?" ~ Buddha At age 29, Siddhartha left his home and his family in search of meaning. Buddhist tradition calls this decision The Great Renunciation. For 49 days he sat under the bo tree, the tree of wisdom. Although demons tempted him, he resisted. TAKE CARE OF EACH MOMENT... As he meditated, Siddhartha discovered that his knowledge transcended life and death... He reached nirvana, a state of complete peace, free of human limitations. With his Enlightenment, Buddha celebrated the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. "Peace comes from within," he said. "Do not seek it without." With meditation, Buddha awakened a clear mind and a compassionate heart. AWAKE GOOD WISHES... For over 2,500 years, the words of Buddha have inspired goodness. "All we are is a result of what we have thought," he said.
