Summer's here and school's out. Graduation time and the flowers are blooming. It's hot... It's sunny. Life is full of endless possibilities. Time to take advantage of the fresh air and outdoors. The trees, the birds, the bees... Swimming, surfing, hiking, camping, biking...
Before or after such exertion, it's also a nice time to take advantage of the indoors. Nice cool recliner and bed, television or books, with the fan or AC blowing.
"Periods of wholesome laziness, after days of energetic effort, will wonderfully tone up the mind and body," advised American motivational writer Greenville Kleiser.
There is a lot to be said about the advantages of being lazy. As Mortimer Caplan, the former IRS commissioner put it, "Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired."
There certainly is wisdom in thinking ahead, right? Or as ventriloquist buddy Charlie McCarthy put it, "Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy."
So relax, be lazy.
