Singer/songwriter Stephanie Lynn Nicks (1948-) was born on this day in Phoenix, Arizona.
"If you really want to save yourself a whole lot of heartache, do not fall in love with somebody in a band," she said. "Just don't. Because it just doesn't ever work. It's too much to ask of them to be true."
Nicks and then-lover Lindsey Buckingham (whom she met in high school) joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975. Her passionate lyrics and vocals were key to the group's multimillion-selling albums and fame. (Fleetwood Mac and Rumours).
"We hired a business management firm, then partied hard," she said.
With mysticism and husky drawl, drug addiction and love affairs, veiled chiffon dresses, and song writing second to none, she led the way, a twirling gossamer beacon, for women in the music industry.
"I write in codes, because I want my songs to appeal to everyone," she said, still a sorceress of sound and heart... And truth.
"I don't feel any different at 60 than I felt at 50. Age is a state of mind. You can either get old or not get old," Nicks said.
