Hooray: Spring is here. Thursday, March 20, the Vernal Equinox, was the first day of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. At the equator, night and day are the same length, each lasting exactly twelve hours.

"Spring... An experience in immortality," said writer and transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau.

WHEN SPRING COMES...
"When spring comes the grass grows by itself." ~ Tao Te Ching

Life Prayers The Vernal Equinox was named for the goddess of spring, Eostre. Some say Ancient Pagans offered her cake and colored eggs on this day. Eostre is also the fertility goddess and goddess of the East, the direction of the sunrise and rebirth.

"Life stands before me like an eternal spring with new and brilliant clothes," said German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss.

Spring resonates for birdwatchers, blooms in the hearts of gardeners, and inspires poets and lovers. "Spring," celebrated hymn writer Bishop Reginald Heber, "unlocks the flowers to paint the laughing soil."
