Walt Disney said he was at his “lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner” when he pulled out a pad and pencil while on a train and sketched Mickey Mouse.

Inspired by Charlie Chaplin and affection for mice, Disney gave Mickey the resilient personality to keep trying to do the best he could, whatever the challenges. Of his eventual success, Disney said, "I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse."
